Britney Spears has sparked a wave of worry about her deep-golden tan, one that got showcased this weekend as the 39-year-old highlighted a tattoo of hers that's rarely seen. On Saturday, the "Toxic" singer updated her Instagram to lift up her ponytail and draw attention to the back of her neck, where a tattoo formed of Hebrew letters links to Kabbalah and healing properties. While the inking made headlines, it looks like Britney's followers were more-focused on her skintone. Check it out below.

Scroll for the photo. Britney had posted shot from behind and showing off both her famous figure and her rarely-seen tattoo. Snapped in a bright pink bathing suit that was better shown off in an accompanying video, the Grammy winner also wore white boots as she drew the eye to the back of her neck.

The 2004-arrived inking, received after Britney got advice from Kabbalah follower Madonna, came with a mention of hot pink making "my tan pop" as Britney asked: "Have you seen the tattoo on the back of my neck before????"

Continuing, Britney wrote: "It's Hebrew, it’s a language written backwards !!!! It says Mem Hey Shin and means healing !!!! It's my favorite tattoo but ironically you never see it 😉😉😉 !!!!!"

Comments came in fast - many over the blonde's fierce and golden tan. Over 1,800 users liked a remark reading: "Wear suncream doll look after yourself." More blunt was a reply stating: "Girl looked black af," and it was here that users weighed in on whether or not Britney is too tan. See more photos after the snap.

Spears, known for her tan and seemingly celebrating the "pop" in her post, now sees more fans weighing in. "She’s more “tan” than than me and I’m Southeast Asian," one replied. Another wrote:

"She’s tanned for so long that she has what my mom calls “rubber skin” and it holds the tan because the skin is so damaged at that point."

The discussion comes as celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Kristin Cavallari are slammed for their tanning. Kristin recently promoted "tan lines," while GOOP founder Paltrow said she only applies sunscreen where the sun hits. More below.

It's been busy on Britney's Instagram this month, with the singer recently making headlines for recreating her icon 2013 VMAs stage appearance, one seeing her writhe around with a 25-pound snake. Posing in a green snakeskin catsuit, Britney revived the memory, writing:

"I held a snake at the @VMAs one time but decided to go ahead 20 years later and become the motherf-cking snake myself 🐍🐍🐍 !!!! And since TRICKS ARE FOR KIDS you tricky little sh-ts … who knows what color snake I will be tomorrow 😳🤔😏 !!!!???"
