Mariah Carey is one of the few music icons in the world who has managed to stay relevant for decades. Currently aged 46, she has gone through a lot over the years, and is presently said to be working on a reality show to be aired on E!. In a trailer for the reality show, dubbed Mariah’s World, her long-awaited wedding to James Packer was highlighted to be one of the most important events in the series.
The trailer also pointed out that Mariah had a rule, which is that she is not be seen in premises with fluorescent lighting without her sunglasses. She also states, ” I am not Cinderella, my life has not been a fairy tale. Forget the image, forget the rumors. I owe this to the fans.”
The following is the trailer.
However, her long time director, Lee Daniels, has distanced himself from the project as according to him, Mariah Carey should not be doing a reality show in the first place, the reason being that she is too fragile. The following was his statement in regard to this while on the SiriusXM’s Bevelations show.
“She is very fragile, and she has been through a lot. She has been used, she has been abused … Some people don’t have that Teflon sort of thing that I do, so she masks it with this coquettish thing that is hiding her nervousness and her pain and her own family’s abuse to her. She is misunderstood, because she is really, really ride or die. She really, really, really will do anything for you.”
This is as reported by Page Six. Daniels, who directed Mariah Carey in the films The Butler, Precious, and Tennessee, also seemed to imply that her legendary shade was some sort of defense mechanism to deal with people trying to bully her, as she has in the past undergone immense mental abuse, saying it’s not real at all. The following were his actual words.
“I’ve seen how people attack her. They are mean to her. People try to start stuff between her, and she plays into it, but it’s all a joke.”
Daniels also revealed that Mariah had at one time tricked him into appearing on her reality show. The following was his revelation.
“I show up to this room at a Kosher steakhouse somewhere on Wall Street, and the cameras are in my face and recording our conversation! And she says, ‘Dahling, dahling, dahling, sign [the release form], sign it, sign it, we’re doing a little documentary.”
And the next day, when he learned that it was actually a reality show, he was mortified. The following was his statement.
“The next day, I’m reading … that she has a f**king reality show, and I’m terrified about it. I don’t know if it’s a wise idea for her. I was at the gym, I saw it, and I was like, ‘Oh, Lord. What is she doing?’ I think it’s bigger than her. I think it’s not a good idea. I think that the true geniuses have to be saved from themselves sometimes. But I have no problem telling her, ‘What are you doing?’ and she listens, too.”
That said, Mariah Carey has been reported to have suffered mental abuse in her past relationships. Her relationship with Tommy Mottola in particular is said to have caused her anguish lasting several years. According to Data Lounge, he forced her to do albums and worked to isolate her from friends and family. She was just 18 when they started working together. According to Mariah Carey’s revelation, it was hard to escape such a reality.
