Two teams heading in completely opposite directions will meet when the red-hot Chicago Cubs visit the struggling San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park for the nightcap of tonight's exciting MLB slate.

The Cubs head to the Bay area after winning six straight, while the home team has dropped seven straight matchups and has suffered back-to-back sweeps to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Regardless of their impressive momentum, it might be too little, too late for Dave Ross' team. The Cubs have struggled for most of the season and they don't have a competitive roster right now.

So, look for them to part ways with multiple pieces as the trade deadline zooms in, with Willson Contreras, Ian Happ, and David Robertson as the players likeliest to leave Wrigley Field to join a contender.

Will The Giants Make A Move?

The Giants haven't been the same dominant team they were last season. They're coming off beating a franchise record for more wins in the regular season, yet letting go of their stars in free agency has taken a big impact on them.

Also, they haven't been able to stay healthy all season and are currently playing sub.500 baseball, which is why some doubt they'll try and make a big splash before the trade deadline.

The San Francisco Giants continue to be banged up. This time, Evan Longoria, Brandon Crawford, and Trevor Rosenthal headline the absences. The Chicago Cubs, on the other hand, will be without Nick Madrigal, Jayson Heyward, and Andrelton Simmons, although they could also pull some of their stars out with the deadline in mind.

When it comes to trends, it's worth noting that the Giants are 8-0 in their last 8 home games vs. a left-handed starter and 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Also, the Over is 6-1 in Cubs' last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing record, and 3-0-1 in Cubs' last 4 Thursday games.

The pitching edge clearly favors the Giants for this matchup. Alex Wood has been quite solid this season with a 6-8 record and a 4.21 ERA, although his team hasn't provided him much run support.

Wood has won just one of his past four starts despite allowing just three earned runs over that span. Also, the Giants were outscored 19-6 in their seven-game slide.

Backing up a team that's so cold right now may not be the safest choice. But the Cubs will send struggling southpaw Justin Steele (4-6, 4.02 ERA) to the mound and are finally back home, so the spot couldn't be better for them.
