One Direction Breaking Up Officially? Theories About 2020 Reunion Date Rumors Are Evolving

May 1 might be a date that goes down as the saddest in One Direction fandom history because it is rumored that they might not be getting together to tour or make new music until 2020 (if ever!) … and naturally everyone has a lot of questions.

Sugarscape writes on May 1 that people that are not One Direction fans have 16 questions for the 1D fandom outside of the potential of them breaking up … but the one question the fandom has for One Direction is why they might not be living up to the promise of returning after a one-year break.

One Direction might break up and not get back together until 2020

When the One Direction hiatus was announced in August of 2015 by E! Online and others, One Direction implied that there would be an end to their temporary vacation around 2017. At the time, a source close to One Direction stated the following.

“They are great friends and fully support one another. They are very aware that they are able to work on their own stuff as well as remain together. This is an exciting time for them creatively and as a group.”

Sadly, only a couple of months after the official start of their vacation in March 2016, One Direction is in the news for pushing their reunion date, and Daily Star states on May 1 that it could be as late as 2020 … if ever.

They go on to claim that insiders told them Harry Styles was at the crux of the reasons behind the extended vacation, saying Styles was interested in spending a few years perfecting a solo career.

Since the news broke, the media has come up with other theories (outside of Harry Styles’ excuse) about which member or members of 1D are to blame for extending the hiatus.

For example, O.K. re-emphasized that it is the alleged feud between Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson that is keeping One Direction from reuniting in 2017.

UnReality TV points out that Liam Payne was requested by fans to be a part of X Factor, and the rumors that One Direction is not reuniting until 2020 might be a sign he is going to be a judge in future episodes.

The only member of One Direction not being blamed for the extended vacation is Niall Horan. Although all members of One Direction talked about going on vacation to travel, Niall Horan is the only one to truly fulfill that wish. In addition, Niall has been working on a unique angle to his One Direction solo career by doing charity work and investing in a golf management agency.

In the meantime, all of the members of One Direction seem fully entrenched in life outside of each other and their solo career angles mainly involve the music or acting industries — and the exception is Louis Tomlinson.

For example, although Los Angeles seems to be a second home in 2016 to many One Direction members, Louis Tomlinson likely considers it a primary residence since he is living there to be close to his infant son.

According to Daily Mail, Louis Tomlinson has been primarily spending his time in Orange County but did take time to go to a pool party in Las Vegas around April 28.

One Direction might not perform for a long time, but they might make appearances together.

Despite news of their potential hiatus extension, there is always a chance that they will deny these insider rumors started by Daily Star. In the past, when allegations that One Direction was on the road to a break up emerged, Simon Cowell would officially swoop in to deny the rumors.

Regardless, there may also be a few opportunities for One Direction fans to see them in a final surprise performance situation in 2016. For instance, One Direction is still winning awards, and that gives them the perfect opportunity to give their fans one last stage show.

In particular, One Direction might be a part of the MTV Music Awards that will air on August 28, according to Entertainment Weekly.
