The Brooklyn Nets unknowingly shot themselves in the foot when they signed Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

What was supposed to be a yearly cake-walk to the NBA Finals has brought nothing but drama and controversy, and both stars could be on their way out without a single accolade to show for it.

Needless to say, they should look to make the most out of them while they still can.

Nets Want To Trade Kyrie

Kyrie Irving opted in on the final year of his contract, but the Nets were more than comfortable letting him walk away. They have Ben Simmons as their point guard of the future and have grown sick and tired of Kyrie's constant antics.

With that in mind, one could only wonder that it shouldn't take a lot to get Kyrie to leave Barclays Center. He'll be a free agent at the end of the season, and the Nets shouldn't demand all that much.

So, in this hypothetical case, the Dallas Mavericks get him off their hands in a trade for a future protected first-round pick, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Reggie Bullock.

Why Would Mavs Take This Risk?

Tim Hardaway Jr. has been one of the few consistent sources of offense for the Mavericks, but they got by without him when he fell with an injury.

Luka Doncic needs another playmaker by his side, and the Mavs just lost Jalen Brunson. Trading for Kyrie would allow them to keep Spencer Dinwiddie coming off the bench, where he fared much better.

They'd get an offensive upgrade next to Doncic and Christian Wood. But even if he leaves, they'd still have plenty of cap space to try and pursue free agents next summer.

Is It Enough To Land Kyrie?

From a talent standpoint, any Kyrie trade should involve many more draft assets and players. But in reality, his trade value has tanked drastically over the years.

No one but the Lakers wants anything to do with Kyrie's shenanigans, and they have no interest in trading for Russell Westbrook, so this deal might as well be the best they could get.

Who Wins This Trade?

This is a somewhat balanced trade that could go either way. If Kyrie focuses on basketball and chooses to stay, the Mavs would've gotten him on a bargain deal.

If he leaves, the Nets would at least get a couple of sharpshooters to put around Ben Simmons and kick start their new era. It's a coin toss, that's for sure, but it's one worth doing.
