The commencement ceremony took place at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. Trump addressed multiple graduates, military officials, family members, and academy staff and praised them. He also praised another cadet, Abby McAllister, for being the all-time leader in both assists and points in Coast Guard Academy women's lacrosse history. Reportedly, McAllister set single-season and career records for points, goals, and assists. She was named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2026. In the same speech, Trump also warned the graduates that while they had shown "unbelievable heroism and exceptional selflessness", they will be "tested further" as they embark on their military career. According to ClickOnDetroit, he told the cadets that they will be America's "first defenders" and "first responders." He said:
"You've all been tested. You'll be tested further and probably at higher levels as your career goes on."
