President Donald Trump has proudly claimed that he has “taken out” Stephen Colbert. Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday, June 1, and listed Colbert among other political opponents that he claimed he has “taken out.” The 79-year-old POTUS boasted that in the last two weeks, he has defeated several “bad Political ‘Leaders’ and Pundits.”
Among his targets, Trump named Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy and Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, whom he termed a “Lightweight.” The president also named Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and, lastly, “REALLY DUMB Stephen Colbert of CBS,” among others.

Trump then went on to boast about a “38-0” two-week score, and suggested that he is looking to target “three more limping Late Night Talk Show Hosts,” naming Bill Maher and his “Fake Laughing Machine.”
Trump concluded his post stating that it is his “honor to be working so hard” for the United States of America.
Lately, several late-night talk show hosts have been vocal about their critique of the Trump administration.
Apart from Bill Maher, the President could be alluding to Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, or John Oliver. All four appeared on Colbert’s The Late Show just days before its finale episode. All four late-night hosts, along with Colbert, took jabs at Trump during their appearance on the show. The final episode aired on May 21, 2026.

Kimmel had especially come under Trump’s radar after his remarks about the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in April did not sit well with First Lady Melania Trump.
Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert’s show was canceled last July, just days after he slammed Trump’s $16 million settlement with Paramount after he filed a lawsuit over the editing of an interview with 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris, on CBS’ 60 Minutes.
The Associated Press reported that Paramount said the money would go to Trump’s presidential library, and that it was not an apology.
Colbert returned from vacation in July 2025 and labeled the settlement a “bribe.” He said, “I believe this kind of complicated financial settlement with a sitting government office has a technical name in legal circles: it’s ‘big, fat, bribe.'”
🇺🇸COLBERT TELLS TRUMP TO "GO F— YOURSELF" ON FIRST SHOW SINCE CANCELLATION
CBS may have killed his show, but Colbert came out swinging Monday night.
After reading Trump's gleeful Truth Social post, he turned to the "Eloquence Cam" with a two-word message.

Three days after his on-air criticism, CBS announced that The Late Show would be canceled and that the final episode would air in May 2026. The network also declared that the franchise will end with the “irreplaceable” host. It said the decision to cancel the popular show stemmed from financial concerns.
Trump then took to his Truth Social account and denied having “sole responsibility” for Colbert’s firing.
“Everybody is saying that I was solely responsible for the firing of Stephen Colbert from CBS’ Late Show. That is not true!”
“The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses – and it was only going to get WORSE!” he said.
