Megyn Kelly is back at it, and this time she’s not just criticizing Trump. She comes with a warning this time that the president’s U.S.-Iran war could cost Republicans the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 re-election.

The remarks came during Megyn Kelly’s recent interview with Piers Morgan for his YouTube show. According to the former Trump supporter, the Republican Party is in a messy situation as Trump fails to navigate the Iran war. She claimed that the party is facing an increasingly difficult electoral landscape, as public dissatisfaction, economic concerns, and the cost-of-living crisis loom larger than expected.

According to Raw Story, the former Fox News host suggested that if Trump continues to handle things as he is now, the future wouldn’t be too bright, and the GOP would no longer have a favorable path forward if the conflict continues.

Megyn Kelly said:

“We assume we’re going to lose the House on Team GOP, but now more and more political pundits are predicting that the Republicans are going to lose the Senate as well.”

Emphasizing the 2028 elections, she added:

“And the map doesn’t get any easier for Republicans two years after these midterms, when we go into 2028 with a presidential election and yet another election for House members in some Senate seats. So all the math is bad. We don’t have the cards to play.”

This comes after Trump stated that he “doesn’t care about mid-term elections” as long as Iran never has a nuclear warhead. The comment hasn’t gone down well with people in the U.S., who are now not only questioning the basis of the war but also Trump’s ability to lead the country.

According to a Marist Poll conducted in May 2026, 60 percent of Americans disapproved of Trump’s handling of the conflict with Iran, a 6 percent increase from March polling numbers. Meanwhile, Republican disapproval increased from 15 percent to 22 percent.

Additionally, nearly 61 percent of Americans believed that U.S. military action in Iran has done more harm than good, and nearly a quarter of Republicans believe that war has made the U.S. less safe.

As such, Kelly’s remarks come as no surprise. During a separate appearance on the Piers Morgan show in early May 2026, Kelly described the war as a “disaster” and advised Trump to “give the Iranians the deal they want.” She added:

“They seem to be willing to deal on the Strait of Hormuz.”

The Marist Poll further revealed that things could worsen for Republicans with time. About 52 percent of registered voters said they are more likely to support a Democrat, compared with 42 percent who said they are more likely to support a Republican candidate.

Kelly also suggested that if Trump doesn’t withdraw the U.S. military from Iran, problems will increase. She said:

“It’s already a quagmire. Yes, it’s only 13 weeks [old] or whatever it is, but it’s already a quagmire because there’s no easy solution left, even if we just pack up our bags and leave, which is what we should do.”
