On the fateful night of April 28, 2023, Jamie Lee Komoroski from South Carolina was driving three times over the legal limit and traveling 40 mph above the speed limit. While driving under the influence, she slammed into the back of a golf cart. The vehicle was carrying a newlywed couple and two others.

The violent impact changed the lives of the happy couple forever. It critically injured groom Aric Hutchinson and killed his 34-year-old bride, Samantha Miller, just hours after they exchanged vows in Folly Beach.

Newly released interrogation room footage from the night of the accident showed officers from the Folly Beach Police Department questioning Komoroski. She complained to the officers while they tried to get information about the crash.

“There’s no way that I can just get like…I just want to like get it over with and go home,” she can be heard telling the cops.

“Just hang tight. It’s going to be a little bit. A judge is on the way to sign some paperwork. Right now, we’re going to just hang out,” one officer assures her.

At this point Komoroski, who was already visibly scared and overwhelmed, starts to sob. She asks the officer if she could call her father.

“Not right now. You can, but not now. Once I get you down to the jail and booked in, then you can call your dad,” the officer answers.

Komoroski was not pleased with the answer. She accused the officers of acting “mean” and demanded that she be allowed to speak with her family. She kept insisting that the police did not have any evidence that she committed the crime.

“But what did I do? Nobody has any proof of anything that I did. So, give me the right to call my dad. Nobody has the right to deny that from me. Nobody proved anything. So give me the right to call my dad. Nobody proved anything. Nobody proved anything. So give me a phone so I can call my dad, please, right now,” she said.

As she began to act hostile, police officers tried to calm her down. They clarified that she had a felony for driving under the influence.

“Right now, you’re under arrest for a felony driving under the influence,” one cop can be heard telling her. “Stop. You’re making this so much worse for yourself.”

The officer told her that she was not required to call a guardian since she was not a minor at the time of her arrest.

“You are not a minor. You are not required to get a phone call until you are booked into the jail.”

Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including felony DUI and reckless homicide, stemming from the fatal crash.

“I want the last thing that I say to be that, from the very bottom of my heart, with every fiber in my being, how sorry I am. I take full responsibility for my actions,” Komoroski said in court. “Hopefully one day you will be able to forgive me, but I know forgiveness must be earned.”
