The family of a 32-year-old North Carolina man arrested after a series of viral street attacks had repeatedly pleaded with authorities to intervene before his capture, according to his sister.

Di-Quan Schafar Hunt was taken into custody on Thursday after self-recorded videos surfaced online showing him chasing and assaulting unsuspecting strangers across Charlotte. According to the criminal’s own sister, Hunt has a history of at least nine prior arrests. He had recently targeted neighbors at random in the city’s Dilworth neighborhood.

“On Thursday, Aug. 6, at approximately 10:01 a.m., officers responded to an Attempt to Locate call for service in the 800 block of East 4th Street. Upon arrival, officers were presented with a social media account containing multiple videos that detectives were already investigating,” Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said in an official statement.

“During the investigation, officers determined that one of the videos depicted an assault that was reported on July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard in the Providence Division. In that incident, the suspect punched the victim on a sidewalk before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

“As detectives continued their investigation, they identified the suspect in the incident as Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, and obtained a warrant for his arrest.”

Officials stated that additional details will be released through the CMPD Public Affairs Division as the case develops.

“On Thursday, Aug. 6, at approximately 7:30 p.m., CMPD officers took Hunt into custody and transported him to a local medical facility for treatment. Once Hunt is released, he will be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon.”

It appears Hunt kept a digital diary of the assaults. Public records show that he maintains an extensive criminal record in Mecklenburg County, where he has been arrested at least nine times over the past 34 months.

In one of the videos posted recently on his Instagram, Hunt can be seen walking down a street as an unsuspecting woman approaches from the opposite direction. After angrily referencing a prior incident, he suddenly lashes out, striking the woman and knocking her to the ground.

He can be heard mumbling the same lines over and over, “But, but, but you killing my kid in the tapes, everywhere. That’s, that’s the real issue, ni***. That’s the real f**king issue, ni***….July 21st is the real issue, ni***. July 21st, that’s the real issue. Nah, don’t wave to me.” “You still talking?” he shouted during the assault.

As the woman lay there defenseless, he landed a series of slaps and punches on her. The clip has been posted at least ten times on his profile. In some snippets posted about a separate attack on his Instagram, Hunt can be seen chasing a female jogger.

Ever since the videos surfaced online, netizens have been trying to get the authorities’ attention.

“So sad, she gonna have a lifetime of healing from this. Not just physically but mentally and emotionally,” one comment under one of the videos read.

“If a judge let him go on a prior felony the judge should be held accountable for this as well,” read another.

His sister expressed deep concern for public safety and the victims, hoping they receive justice while acknowledging that the alarming encounters have put her own family at risk. She revealed that Hunt has been diagnosed with PTSD and bipolar disorder but refuses to take medication, leaving the family fearful of what might occur if he is released again without mandatory treatment.
