A Florida suspect is in custody after allegedly dragging a police officer during a violent traffic stop early Saturday morning. Police stopped 28-year-old Shakoi Donovan around 3:00 a.m. after observing his vehicle swerving.  According to authorities, Donovan refused commands to exit the vehicle and accelerated while an officer was grabbed, dragging the officer several hundred feet before escaping.

When officers noticed smoke coming from the car, they asked Donovan to turn off his vehicle and step out. He refused. Police bodycam footage published by the Eustis Police Department shows the police approach Donovan as he sits in his car.

“Why are you driving like that?” a female officer asked him. “You smell like you broke the brakes off this thing.”

Donovan claimed that his vehicle had an oil leak. As the officer reached inside to take a proper look, Donovan suddenly sped off. The officer was trapped halfway inside the car, pinned between Donovan and the steering wheel.

The officer can be heard screaming in terror and pleading with him to slow down. However, even after Donovan saw the officer was stuck in a dangerous position, he refused to slow down or stop the vehicle. She was dragged about 300 feet before falling onto the road.

Another officer found the injured female officer lying motionless on the ground. Fortunately, police report that she and the other officers involved are going to be okay. Donovan fled the scene at the time.

Chief Craig Capri has strongly condemned Donovan’s actions. “He has no regard for human life, so to him it’s nothing. and he drove off,” he said.

Following the incident, the Florida police department put out a warrant for his arrest. The warrant reads:

“Shakoi Donovan (28 y/o B/M) has an active arrest warrant for an incident that occurred on 08/01/2026 at approximately 2:47 am. His charges are attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, resisting with violence, and resisting without violence. Do not attempt to approach or confront this subject, as he should be considered dangerous. Anyone with information on this incident can contact the Eustis PD.” 

The Florida suspect turned himself in to the police about 14 hours later. He is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The chilling footage shocked social media users across platforms.

One X user noted, “Cops shouldn’t use their own body as some kind of tactic to device to stop people. She put herself in harms way trying to hang onto the vehicle bro didn’t want to hurt nobody. Just wanted to get away.”

“He said get off of me she failed to listen. She would rather force herself into a detrimental situation and then try to use the courts to shift liability on the civilian,” added another.

A separate commentator added, “Law enforcement needs to stop letting them dictate the situation. Shut the vehicle off & take their keys. If they refuse, tazer or firearm. No more of this should be allowed.”

A fourth user wrote, “If you cooperate at the very least, you keep everything to the minimum charge that it can be, but if you fight then you will elevate every goddamn charge there is!!! and it is not worth it once you’re in court. Don’t be a fool.”
