On Wednesday, MSNBC host Jen Psaki harshly criticized Republicans, mocking them for a growing trend of symbolic awards created to praise President Donald Trump. In this case, the GOP has introduced a new honor called the “America First Award” for the current U.S. president.
While appearing on her primetime show, Psaki attacked House Speaker Mike Johnson, ridiculing his decision to introduce the award and immediately honor it for Trump. She said, “Tonight, after so much suspense, with so many worthy nominees in the running … the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, has just announced the winner of the inaugural America First Award.” Her sarcasm was evident.

According to RawStory, multiple clips during the segment were aired as evidence of what Psaki was talking about. In one such clip, Johnson is seen applauding Trump for his leadership and explaining why he deserves it.
“The president has done so much for the American people, and we want to honor him in some small way,” Johnson said. “We have created a new award… and he is the suitable and fitting recipient of the first-ever America First Award.”
Referring to the clip, Psaki dismissed Johnson’s explanation as performative. She said, “Guys, there is even a golden statue. You can’t make it up.” She called Johnson “Little Mike Johnson,” citing that the ‘honor’ was a “participation trophy” given to boost Trump’s ego.
It is worth noting that Jen Psaki is the former White House press secretary and has previously experienced life in a presidential administration. Nevertheless, talking about the “made-up” trophy, she said that the episode reflects a deeper pattern followed by the Republican Party.
“It’s like the EGOT for insecure manbaby presidents,” she said, listing other honours Trump had received, including fictional titles like a “FIFA Peace Prize” and a “Champion of Beautiful Clean Coal Award.”
Psaki also discussed the recent comments made by the current White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt. She presented additional evidence to highlight unquestioning loyalty in the administration. In a clip played during the show, Leavitt, who is soon leaving for maternity leave, said, “If you’ve heard it from the President of the United States, obviously it’s true.”

The MSNBC host brushed it off with a laugh and shared a rebuttal. While coming to the end of her show, she said, “There is no moment in history under any president in any other White House where that has been less true.”
