A 40-year-old Naperville, Illinois, woman was sentenced to almost four decades in prison after she was found guilty of her fiancé’s murder. Identified as Rosa Lagrone, she shot her fiancé in 2020 after she found out he was cheating on her.
In November 2020, Lagrone was at home with her fiancé, Darnell Manns, in their 0-100 block of 25W Keswick Lane residence. The two were arguing as Manns was dating another woman. This led to a huge fight, and Manns decided to pack his stuff to leave the apartment.
Reports indicate Lagrone shot Manns once in the arm with a handgun. According to one account, the bullet passed through his arm and lodged in his spine. At that time, he was lying in a pool of his own blood while Lagrone did not help him or call 911.

Instead, she used Manns’ Facebook account to call the other woman he was cheating on with. In the background of the video call, Manns was bleeding on the floor.
Manns was still alive and was transported to a hospital, and died later rather than at the scene. The video also revealed someone kicking him twice. First responders came to the scene and rushed Manns to the local hospital. He was treated there for his injuries; however, he did not make it. He died three days later.
Authorities arrested and charged Lagrone with attempted murder. But later, the charges were updated to first-degree murder. She was also charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and domestic battery while being held in custody with a $1.5 million bond.
According to a February 6, 2026, statement, the jury found Lagrone guilty of the murder of her fiancé. The jury decided after a four-day trial and deliberation of two and a half hours. Now she’ll serve 38 years in prison. She has to serve 100% of her sentence, and only then will she be eligible for parole.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said, “While today’s guilty verdict will not bring Darnell back to those who loved him, it does reveal the truth about what happened on November 6, 2020, and holds Rosa Lagrone accountable for the murder of Darnell Manns.”
The sentence restored faith in the community as she was held accountable for her crime. One social media user commented, “Wow, when you committed a crime before the Safe T Act, they actually held criminals!”
Another one pointed out, “I feel for the family of their loss, but I feel for the young lady, due to the fact that we really don’t know what she was enduring in their relationship and keeping quiet, being in her feelings, not seeking help, holding it in until she just burst!”
