An Ohio couple was taken into custody by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office immediately upon their cruise ship docking at Port Canaveral.
Gannon Jacox, 29, and Brooklyn Hicks, 28, allegedly stormed a neighbor’s stateroom and incited a violent late-night brawl that left a family injured, including a child. During the brawl, the male suspect sustained a gruesome, supposedly self-inflicted eye injury.
Jacox was booked on counts of burglary with a battery and child abuse without great bodily harm. Meanwhile, Hicks was charged with burglary with a battery alongside a misdemeanor count of battery by touching or striking. Both suspects were transported directly from the ship to the Brevard County Jail in Cocoa, Florida.
According to police reports, the violent encounter began late at night when the heavily intoxicated couple engaged in loud, verbal screaming in a passenger hallway.
Other boarders were understandably irritated by the loud screaming. When the victims reminded them to lower their voices, they took the request personally. They forced their way into the neighboring cabin before engaging in a violent attack.
Grown adults forced their way into a family’s cabin and beat a 9-year-old. On a cruise.

“Hicks apparently didn’t like the request, so she decided to go confront them. Jacox then decides it’s a great idea to walk over with his cell phone and start recording the incident as he tells Hicks to beat them up!! The suspects then pushed their way into the victims’ room, which included a nine-year-old child that was inside the room,” Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a statement.
Inside the cabin, the couple lost control. While the man managed to take down multiple victims, the female started throwing hands in every direction. Authorities believe Jacox took a blow to his eye during the fight, either by a victim who tried to fight back or by his partner.
“As a fight ensued, Jacox ends up hitting all three people (including the child), and Hicks was just swinging, hoping one would land. Jacox got a pretty gross injury to his eye that was either caused by one of the victims or friendly fire from the Haymakers his girlfriend was throwing!! Well, regardless of how insane the entire incident was, thankfully none of the victims were seriously injured in this ridiculous escapade!!”
Ivey took the opportunity to issue a warning to the public. “So what’s the moral of the story… if you can’t hold your liquor, then you definitely shouldn’t be out in public causing a scene like this and injuring random people, including a child!! And if that memo is not clear enough for you, then you might want to stay your butt out of Brevard County,” he said.
