A toddler suffered while the one person meant to protect her turned a blind eye to her torment.

A mother in Texas has been put behind bars for allowing her boyfriend to repeatedly beat her two-year-old daughter. She later admitted to investigators that she failed to intervene or report the abuse out of fear that he would end up in jail. Both adults are in custody and have been charged with inflicting serious injury to a child.

The situation came to light after 28-year-old Jazmin Cisneros and her boyfriend, 29-year-old Gerardo Gonzalez, brought the severely injured toddler to a local gas station in Spring, Harris County, seeking assistance. Bystanders who witnessed the child’s condition immediately dialed 911.

“On August 6, 2026, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Precinct 4 deputies responded to a report involving the critically injured toddler in the 3100 block of Rendezvous Court in Spring. The child was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to another hospital with life-threatening injuries consistent with severe trauma,” the police report says.

According to court records, Gonzalez reportedly confessed that he hit the toddler in the head several times, punched her in the chest, lower back, and bottom, and stomped on her pelvis. The abuse resulted in the toddler’s broken pelvis, lacerated liver, and fractured skull. The documents say Cisneros repeatedly failed to seek medical attention for her toddler. 

Due to the severity of her condition, she was emergency-airlifted to a trauma center, where she underwent emergency surgery and currently remains in critical condition. Dailymail, which viewed court records, said the toddler is “not expected to survive.”

While Gonzalez was arrested on Friday, Cisneros was arrested on Tuesday, both for causing serious bodily injury to a child, and were booked into the Harris County Jail on a $1 million bond and a $500,000 bond, respectively. 

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said, “Our thoughts are with this young toddler as she continues to fight for her life. Cases involving children are among the most heartbreaking first responders to encounter, and we remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.” 

The case, which remains under investigation, has sparked intense public outrage. Netizens condemned the mother for standing by while her young child suffered severe physical abuse in the hands of her lover.

“As a mom, I would NEVER EVER bring my kids around someone that I am not sure if I will share my life with that person and even then I would at least take full responsibility and not leave my son/daughter by themselves with such a person I hope this baby recovers and finds a safe home and people that love her,” one user on Facebook wrote.

Another user added, “She knew her child had been harmed and did nothing about it. She’s just as guilty!”

Some also raised the point that the mother was probably also getting abused by Gonzalez and feared speaking up.

“Dude was prolly whoopin both of them. Sadly, Idt that’s an excuse, though. Not in 2026. Justice for the child and prayers for a recovery and that God looks after that child,” one commentator added.

“She looks neglected too, but ladies, y’all have to build the courage… I fought for my life. But you bet your behind those individuals walk around eggshells when I step in. You can bet your behind, they tense up when my energy steps in before my body does. Get loud, press charges, collect evidence, and collect those police reports,” a separate comment read.

“Whether or not the mother was also a victim of this monster, would never let a man abuse my child,” said another user.
