An Indiana man was arrested on charges of attempted murder after he went to his ex-girlfriend’s home to fight her new boyfriend. The incident happened on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at a Fort Wayne residence when Steven Shannon, 47, broke into his former girlfriend’s home.
The local police responded to the woman’s home around 9:30 p.m. and discovered a man covered in blood. Shannon had beaten him up and stabbed him a few times.
Before the incident, Shannon had sent several messages to the ex-girlfriend threatening to beat her new boyfriend. According to court documents, Shannon texted his ex, “If he’s still there, that means he’s prepared to do battle. If he’s not willing to die for you and kill for you, he might want to [leave].” He implied the battle between them would be “to the death.”
The suspect told police a very different story than what witnesses recounted. https://t.co/VyIuxDrrjM

At the time of the incident, Shannon’s ex-girlfriend was with her friends and a boyfriend in the garage. Shannon ripped the door from the hinge to break into the home. He then proceeded to hit the man out of jealousy. Before beating him, he had threatened the victim, “I told you I’mma kill you.”
Shannon blamed his ex for the fight while she was trying to stop them from fighting. He ran away as soon as he heard police sirens but was caught and arrested shortly after. He explained to the officers that he had entered through the back door as he used to when they were still in a relationship.
Furthermore, he added he was the one being attacked and had no knife with him. He told the officers he went to his former girlfriend’s home to ensure she was not doing d–; however, the threatening messages that he sent to her prove otherwise. He also said the victim wielded a knife and the two were tussling. Later, he blacked out and left the residence.

The police also spoke to the victim, who was taken to the hospital to get treated. His injuries were non-life-threatening. He has multiple stab wounds on his shoulders and a laceration on his head. He told the police officers, “This guy came in and attempted to stab the s– out of me.”
Another witness told the officers Shannon struck the new boyfriend a few times after threatening to kill him. Shannon’s ex was trying to stop the attack.
Shannon was taken into custody and transported to the Allen County Jail. He is being held on a $120,000 bond. He has been charged with attempted murder, a level 1 felony, and burglary, a level 4 felony. He will appear in court on Aug. 31.
