What was supposed to be a weekend sleepover among middle school friends in Perrysburg, Ohio, in late November 2021 quickly turned into a night of betrayal and trauma. The gathering of 13-year-olds quickly turned into a disturbing sequence of events involving s*xual abuse that eventually drew the attention of law enforcement.
A police interrogation clip uploaded by Deep Dive Bodycam on YouTube shows the children talk about the horrors that unfolded on the fateful night.
At first, they interview a bystander who left early that day. In the beginning of the footage, an investigator with the prosecutor’s office introduces herself and tries to make the boy feel comfortable.
When asked how he knew the boys involved in the case, he says that he has been best friends with one of the victims for the last two years. He said he saw the video two or three weeks later after his best friend showed it to him.
“But I like didn’t know any of the details. He just showed me. He didn’t tell me what happened or anything,” he said. “I was just distressed. I didn’t know anything like that. But then I found out that he was forced to do it and I just felt horrible for him.”
He said he went to the sleepover and watched football playoffs together. However, his mother picked him up before any of the s*xual abuse took place. He said the boys involved in the video told him it was taken that day after he left.
The boy also told the interviewer that it was not the first time the children were involved in a similar incident. “I think it all started at sleep, like his birthday party. We all had like a huge sleepover. It was me and, like, all of his friends and a few of my friends… and that’s when it started, and it ended with consent.”
The boy said the other children didn’t ask him to participate because he has a tough image. He said his friend has a smaller stature, and it’s possible he was an easy target. “He’s one of the smaller ones, you know, even if they did force him in an aggressive way, he couldn’t have really done anything about it.”
He said he saw a p*nis and that the victim was made to perform oral s*x.
The next interviewee in the footage is another teen, one of the primary victims in the room. He narrated how he was peer-pressured into performing oral s*x. However, he held his face stiff and managed to fight it off.
“We were just going over there just to, you know, watch and have fun, and they just started to be like, real weird. And just like they were just like weird and real awkward and like they just started like doing weird stuff,” he told the detectives.
“I don’t even know how this like how they started to like even like get talked about and then they ended up like started to suck this and they were letting him and stuff and he was telling me to like set a timer and stuff like that and I I did it cuz I was just I don’t know.”
“He did that, and then he was trying to get me to like to suck pen*s, and I was like, ‘no, I don’t. No, I don’t want to do that.’ That was just super weird.”
“And then they ended up jumping on me and pinning me down to the ground and just holding my arms back, and he was like he was yelling to get on me, too, and like he got on his legs and they were all like laughing and stuff, and then he ended up getting on me and putting his pen*s like on my face and stuff. And he was like, ‘Just put it in your mouth for 15 seconds’. I didn’t let him.”
A third victim testified, stating that the ongoing assault had taken a toll on his emotional and mental health. He said that he bonded with the other victim over their shared trauma.
The detectives also interviewed one of the suspects. He admitted to making other kids perform oral s*x on him. However, he claimed that the video was shot and distributed without his consent, and he had asked the boy who took it to delete it. But he didn’t listen.
In the end, the two 13-year-old Ohio boys were charged with r*pe. One of the teenagers faced an additional felony charge for distributing explicit material after recording the assault and sharing the footage among classmates.
