A heartwarming story of a US veteran who turned down payments from a financially struggling family with a sick child. The incident happened near Pittsburgh when Mark Bowman, a U.S. veteran, was called to assess the Duffy family’s home for repairs and landscaping.

He sent his worker, Dean, to see the scope of work and concluded the house needed a lot of repairs. Landscaping, interior door replacements, and gutter cleaning would have led to a massive bill for the family. Their seven-year-old daughter, Lucy, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and things had fallen apart.

They did not have the money to keep up with medical bills and home repairs. Dean was quick to notice that the family was struggling, and Lucy looked weak and sick. He saw how stressed the parents were, and the atmosphere at home was tense.

He spoke to the family and found out everything about their overwhelming medical bills and need for home repairs. They told him the repairs had become almost impossible due to the medical bills.

However, they asked Bowman how much the repairs would cost them. He just told them he would be back with his crew for the work the following week. Despite being low on money, the family insisted on paying, but Mark refused.

Not only did Bowman complete the repairs for free, but he also did extra repairs wherever they were needed. He even installed a cat door and repaired brickwork. They also did landscaping for the family to ensure their home looked beautiful and was a safe space for healing. Later, he visited the family and brought gifts for the kids. This was Bowman’s act of kindness to relieve the family of at least one financial worry.
