An 18-year-old Florida woman assaulted a police officer and slipped out of handcuffs while being transported to a mental health facility in Flagler County on June 6. Flagler County Sheriff’s Office released a video of the intoxicated teen, who was sitting in the back of the police vehicle. She removed the handcuffs in no time and freed herself.
Identified as Autumn Bellows, the accused spat on the police officer and was also hurling abuse at them. She was hard to restrain for the police as she was in an intoxicated state. Despite her inebriated state, deputies arrested and charged her with assault of a law enforcement officer.
In the video, Bellows was screaming at the officer and bragging about getting out of the handcuffs. She appeared not to be in her senses as she was speaking incoherently.
The deputies responded to a distress call from an intoxicated woman at 7 p.m. According to the deputies, she was kicking and banging her head against the partition of the vehicle. She was not cooperating with them while riding in the back of the police cruiser.
In the video she was seen saying, “I’d rather have a penalty and pay for it than have a baker. I don’t care. I’ll be out the next day.” Then she started acting erratic and saying “I’ll be fine. I’ll be fine. I didn’t open the door.” before constantly spitting on the cops.
Due to her disruptive behavior, the police had to put a spit mask on her along with additional restraints as she wriggled her wrists out of handcuffs.
Many viewers noted how troublesome the teen’s behavior was and hoped she got charged.
One YouTube viewer commented, “Spitting on an officer is a separate offense.” The second one joked, “The spare tire will over the course of its life prove to be an infinite time more useful than that kid will ever be.”
Another one commented, “Why call her a teen and not an adult?” hoping she would be charged like an adult. One more added, “The consequences just need to be stricter and stricter and stricter.”
In an intoxicated state, Bellows told the police that she wanted to go to jail and that criminal charges should be filed against her. According to Florida felony law, she was charged with battery.
However, she was not taken to prison but transported to AdventHealth Palm Coast for a medical evaluation. After clearance, she was taken to Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility. According to the jail records, she was released on a $2,500 bond.
