A stray dog named Jack in Brunswick, U.S., became an unlikely hero after rescuing an abandoned newborn baby and carrying it to a nearby hospital one morning around 6 a.m. He was looking for food one morning near the garbage bins of some restaurants. The dog sensed a familiar smell wrapped up in a blanket.
It turned out to be a newborn baby that somebody had abandoned. The 9-year-old stray was smart enough to know what to do. He picked up the baby in the blanket and made his way to the nearest hospital. He must have associated the hospital with people present around the clock.
He reached the reception area but was scared away by a woman. That’s when he moved to look for someone who wouldn’t be scared of him and would actually help the baby. He reached the break room and discovered three women. Two of them were scared of him and tried to get away.
Fortunately, the third one noticed the baby moving inside the blanket. Identified as Angelina Potter, she immediately knew what was in the blanket. The nurse knelt, unwrapped the blanket and found the baby. Despite being overwhelmed with emotions, she called for help and got the baby medical attention.
The baby was cold but had a heartbeat. She took Jack home with her, adopting the senior stray dog and giving him a new life. Later on, she also adopted the baby.
Almost 2 million people watched the YouTube video and thanked Jack for saving the baby’s life. Viewers called the dog a hero. One user commented, “What a wonderful dog and what a generous person this woman is! A wonderful story with a happy ending for everyone.”
Another one posted, “I have a dog myself, you are very intelligent, I believe very well that the dog was aware of this.” “I always say that the most cruel animal is man, and even wild animals have a lot of love and empathy in them, and even if they have been hurt by man more than once, they can save a person in danger,” commented another one.
Many people abandon babies due to various reasons despite the Safe Haven laws. These laws allow the parents to drop off their babies at designated places if they can’t raise them. No legal action is taken in such cases.
