A violent confrontation at Figueroa Street and Seventh Street, Los Angeles, left a longtime hotdog vendor injured Sunday, after cellphone footage captured an unidentified woman brutally tackling and pummeling her during an alleged extortion attempt.
The Los Angeles victim, Arabelia Martinez, 62 years old, was operating her mobile hot dog cart when a female suspect approached and initiated a tense verbal altercation. Mobile video captured the woman pouring chamoy over the food products before the dispute rapidly escalated into a direct physical struggle.
When Martinez reacted by throwing powdered spices toward her abuser, the Los Angeles suspect charged directly across the sidewalk. The woman grabbed Martinez by her hair, violently wrestled her to the concrete pavement, and began a sustained physical assault as multiple witnesses scrambled to intervene.

“I want her to get caught. I want my mom to get justice for what happened to her.”

The Los Angeles assault followed an intense verbal exchange regarding municipal street vending regulations. Garcia said the suspect falsely claimed authority over local licensing requirements, using the pretext to demand illicit cash payments from Martinez while shouting explicit anti-immigrant slurs.

Medical records indicate Martinez sustained severe contusions across her entire body and currently remains under the care of a specialized neurologist due to persistent headaches. The financial fallout from the attack includes extensive property damage to her commercial cart and entirely destroyed food inventory.
An individual claiming to be the suspect later uploaded a series of videos on TikTok to justify the confrontation.
Suspect said, “People saying I antagonized her. Okay, maybe. Maybe just a little bit by putting Chamoy on the hotdog. If you could throw Tajín and a bottle at me, how do I know what’s coming next?”

A historic July 2024 settlement struck down seven discriminatory no-vending zones near major Los Angeles venues like Dodger Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl. The victory also cleared all outstanding tickets and secured full refunds for vendors fined in those areas over the past five years.
“For years, vendors have been wrongly ticketed, harassed, and traumatized because of the City of L.A.’s discriminatory and unlawful vending restrictions. This settlement ends these harmful practices and provides some justice to vendors by canceling all related citations and reimbursing vendors for any fines paid.”
