A New York man, who was out on bail, gunned down his elderly parents before turning the gun on himself in a tragic murder-suicide on Friday, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The bodies were discovered after the suspect’s brother, who lives out of state, called 911 and requested that authorities do a welfare check after he hadn’t heard from his parents or his brother in days.

The fatal shootings occurred less than a month after 76-year-old Steve Sislo and 72-year-old Donna Walker-Sislo paid a $10,000 bond to free their son, Justin Sislo. The 35-year-old was arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend.

According to the police report, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 9:13 a.m. on August 7 to a home at 7625 McCormick Road following reports concerning the residents’ well-being.

Upon arrival, the responding New York deputy on scene reported a heavy odor of propane or gas in the air and heard gas actively escaping into the structure. He then looked around the property to discover the source of the odor.

While surveying the exterior of the house, the deputy spotted the two deceased bodies through a main-level window. Law enforcement then entered the home, where they discovered a third adult deceased.

The police report also specifies that before July 2026, local police rarely dealt with Sislo. The only prior incident on record was a family dispute with his father in March 2024. However, no charges were filed at the time.

In July this year, he was arrested by a separate police department in New York for assaulting his 56-year-old girlfriend. As investigators dug deeper, more concerning details regarding Sislo emerged.

In a statement, police said, “On July 2nd of 2026, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Moravia Police Department (Cayuga County), who were investigating a domestic-related assault that occurred in Moravia, for which Justin Sislo was arrested. A 56-year-old female, who was engaged in a romantic relationship with Justin Sislo, was the victim of the Moravia complaint.”

“While Moravia Police were conducting the investigation into the crime that occurred in their jurisdiction, they became aware of additional crimes that Sislo had allegedly committed against the same female victim in the Town of Madison.”

“The Madison County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation into the facts brought forth by the Moravia Police Department. As a part of the investigation into the ongoing domestic assault, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Justin Sislo’s residence at 5172 Hill Road, Town of Madison, on July 29, 2026. During the execution of the search warrant at 5172 Hill Road, all firearms located in the residence were seized, along with additional evidence.”

After the execution of the search warrant, Sislo was arrested based on multiple charges, including one count of second-degree assault, three counts of second-degree strangulation, one count of first-degree reckless endangerment, one count of promoting a suicide attempt, five counts of third-degree assault, five counts of second-degree menacing, four counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, one count of third-degree menacing, one count of criminal obstruction of breathing, and two counts of second-degree harassment.
