Lindsay Clancy’s defense lawyer, Kevin Reddington, grilled her virtual psychiatrist and her treatment. He asked about her medication prescribing decisions and the therapy she provided to the postpartum mom.

Lindsay Clancy stands accused of premeditating the murder of her three kids. She strangled them using exercise bands. The defense has argued that she was under the influence of medication, bipolar disorder symptoms, and postpartum psychosis. There was a decline in her mental health during the months leading up to the murder, and Reddington claims the doctors did nothing to help her.

According to the defense, the medical care was inaccurate and lacked consideration for Lindsay Clancy’s history. He highlighted that the video therapy appointment with Dr. Jennifer Tufts was only 25 minutes long. There were not enough to prescribe several medications to the mother without being cautious about the side effects.

Reddington asked Tufts, “What did you do? You had a woman who was telling you she felt hopeless.” he also called her a “box-checking robot.” He asked her why she could not update the items in the boxes that needed to be checked. She replied that she was “limited by technology” and only had a few options online to click on.

Tuft’s claimed she provided talking therapy to the mom and gave her hope, “I told her that this was something we could address, that there was hope, that there are treatments, that there are different types of programs. So she knew that she still had options and a reason to hope.”

Reddington asked her, “Did you ever suggest to her that ‘maybe you should come in and see me, rather than on the computer?'” She replied, “Talking to her over the video didn’t seem like an issue. It didn’t seem like there was something I was missing.”

Tufts also added that she focused on what Clancy communicated to her during the therapy and on some days she seemed more stressed than others. However, she did not diagnose her with postpartum psychosis. Instead, she diagnosed her with generalized anxiety disorder and an adjustment disorder with depressed mood.

Tufts saw Lindsay Clancy during virtual appointments from September 2022 until the day before the killings. She testified, “I would have been very concerned if I had heard that (suicidal thoughts). I do not believe that I’ve been negligent.”

For this, she was prescribed her medications to feel better. Over the period of a few months, Clancy was on a cocktail of 13 different medications. According to Reddington, Clancy tried her best to get medical care and stay in therapy. She took the prescribed medication, called the suicide hotline, and checked herself into a psychiatric hospital for several days.

She tried to get the hospital-based, full-day treatment for postpregnancy mental health problems but was denied. The prosecutor team has argued that Clancy planned the murders and was aware of things. She sent her husband to the pharmacy and restaurant so she could be alone with the kids.

Over 200K people watched the courtroom video shared on Law&Crime’s YouTube channel. This is a televised trial that has gained massive viewership and mixed opinions from the public. Several people debated whether the Massachusetts mom should be held responsible for the murder of her kids.

One viewer under the video wrote, “They need to stop with the Zoom call meetings with patients in the medical professional field. It’s ridiculous.” Another one pointed out, “All the doctors and psychiatrists seem to know nothing about her.” Earlier, a different psychiatrist from McLean Hospital appeared in court. “With having 2 young children and an 8-month-old, Lindsay should have been a high priority when expressing her severe depression and intrusive thoughts,” posted one more viewer.
