A Florida man was sentenced to life in a state correctional facility for fatally shooting his wife, Jenny Miguel, and living with her decomposing remains for approximately three days in 2024.
On Wednesday, Marcus Aron Sanchez appeared before Eleventh Judicial Circuit Judge Christine Hernandez, who handed down the sentence after the 44-year-old man pleaded guilty to each count of murder and arson.
Two years ago, on August 18, 2024, Miami firefighters responding to the 3000 block of SW 13th Street apartment shortly before 2 a.m. discovered Miguel’s burned body inside the house.
Meanwhile, Sanchez, badly burned, drove himself to a nearby hospital and confessed to killing someone. Sanchez told a nurse that he fought with Miguel, who worked as a payroll clerk, and had shot her because she claimed she had killed his children. He described her body as “bloated” when he set the fire.
“She pushed me to the edge. [Miguel] told me she killed my kids. I lost it. I got a gun and shot her three days ago. The body was rotting, and I didn’t know what to do with the body.”
According to the affidavit, “Sanchez states that he shot the female one time in the head and one time in the heart.”

On August 18, 2024, surveillance footage obtained by authorities from a Chevron gas station showed him buying a red five-gallon fuel can with cash at around 12.45 a.m., before setting the residence ablaze.
During his hearing, Sanchez reportedly apologized and claimed drug use had caused paranoia and auditory hallucinations before the killing. He then grabbed his gun and shot Miguel twice before deciding to set everything ablaze. “It just went off in my hands,” Sanchez told the court.
In the court, Miguel’s daughter, who delivered a blistering victim impact statement, addressed him directly, saying, “I want you to die. I will never forgive you.” Miguel’s sister Patricia also remembered her sister and said “she had so much life left to live.”
Sanchez sought a 25-year sentence, but Judge Hernandez ruled that life in prison was the only sentence warranted by the facts.
