A former Florida high school biology teacher is serving a 30-month prison sentence for the se*ual abuse of a minor student. Brooke Anderson, 28, now faces an additional civil lawsuit from her victim, who alleges the abuse left him so traumatized he lost his faith in God.

According to the victim, the grooming began in 2021 as the Florida teacher started subjecting her student to “se*ual violence.”

Anderson was convicted in June 2025 on multiple s*x crime charges, including three counts of unlawful s*xual activity with a minor. She has pleaded guilty to a plethora of criminal charges against her.

“The student disclosed that the relationship began in September 2024, starting with se*ually explicit text messages. In the weeks leading up to the arrest, the relationship escalated. The student reported multiple instances of se*ual activity. The most recent incident occurred the morning of May 16, inside Anderson’s classroom before the start of the school day,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The lawsuit was served as Anderson was two months into her prison term.

According to the suit, the victim began eating lunch in his science teacher’s classroom during his freshman and sophomore years at Riverview High School in Tampa. By his junior year, the teacher began sending the teenager graphic, se*ually explicit text messages. The behavior escalated in April 2025, when Anderson sent “se*ually provocative” photos before s*xually assaulting the student, who was one year below Florida’s age of consent at the time, inside her classroom the following month.

In addition to alleging “heinous se* acts,” the suit explicitly details the emotional and spiritual toll on the victim, stating that the trauma and the “permanent psychological injuries” caused him to abandon his religious beliefs entirely.

The victim is seeking $100,000 in damages from the abusive teacher, who comes from a wealthy background. She was raised in a $1.2 million Rhode Island home and holds a college degree. According to the civil filing, the former student claims that Anderson’s criminal guilty plea bolsters his civil claim against her.

The suit also includes the Hillsborough County School Board, as the victim sues the institution for $50,000 for commercial negligence for allowing the groomer and abusive teacher to work at the school.

Sheriff Chad Chronister commented on the “inappropriate relationship between Anderson and a male student” and her subsequent arrest. “This teacher betrayed the trust of a student, a school, and an entire community,” he said. “What should have been a safe, supportive environment for learning was exploited for abuse. Her actions are criminal, calculated, and deeply disturbing.”
