Katrina McArthur and Jeremiah Veals came to the paternity test to find out if they were siblings at the court. The young couple was hoping that Judge Lauren Lake would offer them some clarity after revealing their DNA test results.
They met through a common friend and started dating. After a while, Veals came to a family reunion at McArthur’s home. There, he realized they had common cousins. Moreover, McArthur grew up with a dad in the picture, but Veals grew up without one. He last saw him when he was 4 years old. The young couple was in love and claimed to have not felt this connection before.
McArthur said, “We had a connection, but it wasn’t like a brother-sister connection. Like I really love him. Like, um, if we’re not brothers and sisters, I really want to be with him, and I want to keep the baby, but I know that it’s a possibility that he could be, and if that’s the case, I’m going to choose adoption as one of my options.”
The suspicion that they were related impacted their relationship. They had not been in the right mindset since February. Moreover, McArthur recently found out that she was pregnant, further complicating the situation.
During the family reunion, an aunt told McArthur, “I’m not going to look at you funny in the face. That might be your brother. Whatever y’all got going on, y’all need to cut it out until you find out.” Meanwhile, her own mother and other aunts were giving her a side eye.

The judge fired back and told him, “That doesn’t make any sense,” for her to wait that long for a relationship and a baby with a guy who might be her brother. She told him it was time for him to sit down, as he didn’t have anything valuable to say.
