An entitled woman sued a man who left her in the middle of the date, but the judge figured out her clever strategy. Identified as a social media influencer named Cherrel Collins, she sued a man whom she met online. She told the judge Jason Sutton slid into her DMs.
They started talking and planned to meet. Collins told Judge Eboni K. Williams, “We were discussing, and we were talking for a couple of weeks, and we were just chatting over the phone, and he originally asked me out on a couple of dates. Uh, the first one being coffee and the second one being ice cream.”
However, those dates did not happen as Collins doesn’t drink coffee and is lactose intolerant. Later, Sutton invited her to a date, but she was busy, so she had to reschedule. She had some work commitments, and for the next one, her father was sick.
The judge noted, “So, there are two reschedules. He’s understanding, I suppose. And then how do you actually get on the date?” They were able to schedule a date for Friday, and she was supposed to meet the man at 5:30.
Although she told the judge she was only slightly late, she actually kept him waiting at the venue for 45 minutes. When asked by Williams how the date began and if she was apologetic, she noted that they simply exchanged basic pleasantries and small talk.
She then turned to the food and drinks she ordered. Though Sutton had only asked her out for drinks, Collins noted she hadn’t eaten all day and couldn’t drink on an empty stomach.
When she arrived, he wasn’t convinced by her apology. Furthermore, he explained that he asked her out for drinks, not dinner, and it was supposed to be a happy hour. He got a cocktail while he sat alone, and the waiter got him another because he felt bad for him.
She got cocktails, calamari, fried alligator, and salmon. On the other hand, Sutton did not order any food as he told the judge he had eaten beforehand. The judge moved on to hear his side of the story. He reached the date at 5:20 and waited till 6:15 for her. The happy hour ended at 6, and the woman showed up at 6:15.
The judge asked him, “Were you contemplating the possibility that maybe there was going to be a split check at some point? Like maybe if she’s hungry, she’ll take care of her food, but allow you to treat her to cocktails because that was the nature of the agreed-upon date.”
He responded, “I thought she was going to maybe foot the bill for her, but what she did in the subsequent moments made me question that entire thing.” Sutton did not like that she was on her phone and posting on social media. He found that disrespectful.
After three rounds of food and drinks, he had finally had enough. Excusing himself under the pretext of using the restroom, he walked out on the date instead. “I felt like I would explode, Your Honor,” he testified, before presenting texts from the following day along with proof that he paid $20 for his share of the drinks.
Williams learned about both sides and slammed Collins for the $218.69 claim; she dismissed it, saying, “The court is convinced, ma’am, that you operated in bad faith, that you wasted this man’s time.”
