Melissa Hall and Brian Hall were driving through a downpour when they spotted an 11-month-old child in the middle of a Kentucky lane in 2015. The couple, who have grandchildren of their own, immediately took the child to safety and contacted police.

They told WYMT Television that they do not consider themselves to be heroes, and whatever they did was driven by instinct. Bryan Hill, who was driving, initially mistook the baby for a dog, owing to how unusual the scene was. Houses nearby did not respond to Hall’s honking once the baby was safely in the car. They were also unable to receive a cell signal on their phone.

The Halls would then drive until they got a cell signal and contacted authorities immediately. Authorities described that the infant was soaking wet and dirty, and was lucky to be alive. The Halls were credited with saving the child’s life. The child was rushed to the hospital, where it was ruled that the child had no significant injuries.

The child’s grandmother, Tammy A. Cooper, contacted police shortly before they arrived on the scene to report that the child had been missing. She was arrested on the charge of wanton endangerment of a child in the second degree.

This, in the state of Kentucky, is an offense that can carry up to 365 days in prison, with a $500 fine. Cooper thought that her grandson was playing with his sister on the front porch when the child went missing. Social Services have become involved in the case. It remains unknown to whose custody the child was released after the grandmother’s arrest.

The matter went viral online, and WYMT Television’s video has amassed a lot of comments on the matter, some as recent as a few months ago. One comment read, praising the couple, “No, Mr. Hall. You and your wife are heroes. That baby is alive because of you.”

Another comment read, “This is just mind-boggling. I cannot for the life of me understand this. If i found a baby in the road i would have a heart attack. I’m just glad that these people found him and not some nut case. I’m glad he’s ok.”

A third comment read, “Oh my goodness! I wonder how far the little fella crawled? So glad he is okay. I believe God had those people at the right place at the right time!!!!”
