In a courtroom cam footage posted by Justice Place on YouTube, a Texas judge, Stephanie Boyd, handled the case of a disgraced father who violated the trust of his own son by sexually assaulting his fiancée. Viewers witness the heart-wrenching moment the victim confronted her rapist, Jose Raimundo Perea, detailing the severe emotional toll of the assault.

She described how the crime shattered her trust, damaged her mental health, and permanently fractured family relationships across generations. Additionally, she also spoke about accountability, healing, and forgiveness.

The defense attorney argued for leniency by highlighting that Perea is an older man, a business owner, a legal permanent resident facing potential immigration consequences, and has no prior criminal record.

The judge announced that the complainant would speak with Perea and deliver an impact statement. The courtroom fell silent as the victim spoke with utmost vulnerability.

“It’s been years now. I’ve tried to piece together the words of what I’d say when this moment came. I need to start by letting you know that we forgive you. We don’t hate you. Not at all,” the victim said while sobbing before the court.

She also had one message to deliver from his son:“Ray told me so that you know that he does not hate you. We hate what you did. And with that being said, you deserve the punishment, whatever it may be.”

The victim proceeded to explain how Perea ruined everything she held close to her heart: “I looked forward all my life to the family that I would one day marry into. The friendship between the siblings and the mother-in-laws, and you stole that from me. Because of their loyalty to you, I’ve been treated differently and outcast as if I did When prior to all of this, we did have a beautiful bond. It was like having a fairy tale ripped right out of my hands.”

She said she didn’t understand why Perea chose to ruin her life. However, she refused to be shamed for someone else’s action.

“I will never understand why you did what you did. I thought so many times, what if I tried to hear you out? But the answer always comes back to the same thing. It doesn’t matter why it happened. I carry your burden and the guilt that I never deserved. The shame is yours to carry, not mine.”

Despite a potential eight-year prison sentence, Judge Boyd’s court followed the jury’s recommendation and suspended Perea’s term, placing him on 10 years of strict probation instead.

To maintain his probation, he must adhere to rigorous conditions: register as a s*x offender, avoid all contact with the victim, restrict interactions with minors, comply with employment limitations, pay restitution for the victim’s counseling, and undergo regular reporting and field visits.
