A Texas man plotted the murder of his ex-wife in March 2024, leaving her and her boyfriend with serious injuries. Williamson County Sheriff’s Office detectives and Liberty Hill Police Department officers responded to a reported burglary at the San Gabriel Apartments.

According to the bodycam video, they found two victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Britni and her boyfriend were injured; however, she was able to tell officers who she believed was responsible. An intruder had forced entry and opened fire with a 9mm handgun while the pair slept, leaving Britni with 11 gunshot wounds and her boyfriend, Christopher Stewart, with 3 gunshot wounds. She was hit in the chest, abdomen, arms, legs, shoulder, and neck.

The initial investigation could not connect Clinton Harmon to the attempted murder. He had built what investigators called an “ironclad” alibi, tied to his home and job in South Dakota, and had reportedly mapped a route to Liberty Hill that avoided cameras and license plate readers so he could claim he’d been home all night.

Harmon appeared cooperative, agreeing to meet with officers without resistance. He told them that he and his ex-wife were on relatively good terms and were simply working out co-parenting logistics.

While the investigation continued, Harmon remained free for nearly six months. According to surveillance video and a GPS tracking device installed in his vehicle by the lienholder, investigators eventually placed him within half a mile of the crime scene at the time of the shooting, a detail he was reportedly unaware of.

The single piece of evidence unraveled his alibi. Investigators also learned the family had discussed using fentanyl and hiring outside help to to carry out the attack.

Financial tensions and an ongoing child custody dispute involving the couple’s young son are cited as the underlying motive behind the plot. Harmon was arrested on September 8, 2024, once investigators gathered sufficient evidence.

Text messages were connecting him to the plot. His ex-girlfriend also came forward, calling authorities in July 2024 after realizing what she’d learned, and revealed the shooting had been premeditated. Harmon, his mother, and his adoptive father were allegedly involved in planning the attack amid the still-pending custody dispute.

Harmon was found guilty of attempted capital murder after police uncovered his plot. He was sentenced to 32 years in prison.
