On the afternoon of October 15, 2025, a 911 call reported a head-on collision in the middle of a Thurston County, Washington highway. The crash sent both cars, a white vehicle and a gray Chavy, spinning off the highway and into gridlocked traffic. A school resource police officer, who is also a deputy with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, happened upon the scene on her commute home, completely unaware that she was about to be viciously attacked.
It all started when authorities received a 911 call about a dangerous accident just around Old Pacific. The caller checked on one of the drivers and quickly realized that the driver was not in a stable condition.
The caller wasn’t the first to notice the driver. Moments earlier, another witness had opened the car door to check if the person inside was okay. However, he was reportedly met with hostility and a threat. “All I could see was his shoes, and the airbag was covering the rest. Um, he said, ‘I’m carrying or I have a gun. Don’t touch me or I’ll shoot you,” revealed the first witness.
The police dashcam and bodycam footage uploaded by EWU Bodycam on YouTube shows the scene of the crash quickly turning into a life-or-death struggle when the aggressive suspect refused to cooperate with the deputy. With the deputy’s gun within the suspect’s reach, the situation could end in tragedy.
After confirming the driver of the white vehicle was uninjured, the deputy approached 47-year-old Brian Fleming, who was bleeding near his damaged Chevy SUV. Fleming refused commands to sit down and kept his hand concealed in his waistband. Dashcam footage shows Fleming charging at the deputy as she approached, though he retreated into his vehicle after she threatened to deploy her Taser.

Other officers, including an off-duty corrections officer, rushed to help. Once Brian Fleming was in handcuffs, the focus shifted to the investigation. The physical disparity between the suspect and the deputy was staggering. At 6’2″ and 210 pounds, Brian Fleming stood seven inches taller and outweighed the female deputy by 70 pounds. Investigators later discovered he possessed another hidden advantage: a brown belt in jiu-jitsu.
During the chaotic scuffle, Fleming refused to comply and repeatedly tried to grab the deputy’s handgun from her holster. An off-duty corrections officer who rushed in to help realized just how close the situation came to turning fatal and began striking the back of Fleming’s head with the muzzle of his own gun
Fleming later admitted to consuming seven bottles of NyQuil that day to induce sleep. Although a violent struggle ensued, no serious injuries were reported, with Fleming requiring only staples for a head wound. He faces multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, resisting arrest, obstruction, third-degree assault, and attempting to disarm an officer, and is currently free on a $10,000 bond.
Viewers were disturbed by Fleming’s aggressiveness, while some lauded the officers and the witnesses for staying calm and escaping the near-fatal encounter.
“That first woman that went to go check on him and realized that he seemed “unstable” was smart to get back in her car. What a scary individual,” wrote one commentator.
Another viewer wasn’t satisfied with the punishment: “$10,000 bond after trying to disarm a cop? There’s something lazy and pathetic with DAs these days.”
A third viewer chimed in, “That officer is the very definition of ‘to serve and protect.’ As he approached her she stood in front of him and said you’re not approaching them either. Respect.”
