A Georgia police officer created a false account of events during a simple traffic stop on January 16, 2022. While she claimed the driver resisted arrest and failed to comply, dashcam footage refuted her account. It revealed her own agitated behavior during the traffic stop.
She physically assaulted the driver. Identified as Deputy Christi Newman, she told another officer, “I can’t make her get out of her car – I just told her she can’t drive it.” She also had her taser out to threaten the driver. After a while, she dragged the driver outside her vehicle, handcuffed her, and proceeded to hit her face. In addition, she banged her head on the hood of her car when she was not even resisting arrest.
After her meltdown, she tried to explain her actions to another officer who was with her. She told him, “I’m pi–. I don’t know where that came from, honestly, she would not get out of the car.” he said, “You do what you’ve got to do, she was non-compliant, you do what you have to do.” the deputy answered, “ I hurt her when she was in handcuffs — I’m going to get in trouble.”
The deputy had a mixed record at her job. According to News4JAX, she had only one warning against her during her five-year service. Meanwhile, she was applauded in March 2026 for her work, according to reports. At first, Newman was asked to go on probation after the incident. She was without pay for two days and had to do additional testing.
The arrest report concluded that the driver didn’t follow instructions during the traffic stop. She was charged with violations, including failure to obey a stop sign, window tint violation, driving with a suspended license, and misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
Her attorney asked for a grand jury investigation where the video evidence was reviewed. As a result, Newman was indicted on six charges of simple battery, false statement, aggravated assault, and three counts of violation of oath by public officer.
The dashcam evidence contradicted the police officer’s statement. Due to this, she was fired from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office. The court set her bond at $10,000. The bodycam video has over 2 million views with over 18k comments on YouTube. Netizens slammed the police officer for being out of control.
One viewer commented, “She’s obviously not emotionally stable enough for such a job.” Another one commented, “That woman had no business being in that job role. Period.” One more pointed out, “Physically abusing someone while they are handcuffed is no different than abusing a child or an elderly person. This woman is an absolute monster.”
