Yale: Gunman Reported On Connecticut Campus


A gunman has been reported on the Yale campus in New Haven, Connecticut. An emergency alert by campus security officials went out to staff and students just after 11 am. All those on the Connecticut campus have been ordered to shelter in place. SWAT teams are reportedly searching the “old campus” area near the center of the university for the alleged gunman.

Police are reportedly following a “person of interest” on High Street near the Yale campus.New Haven police officers and SWAT team members are reportedly looking for an “older white man” who is wearing a heavy overcoat and is balding. ATF team members are now searching around the Yale campus area as well and preparing to close down nearby streets. The New Haven Independent is now reporting that two ambulances with sirens blazing are rolling towards Church Street. Community members who live near the campus of the Ivy League school have also been cautioned to remain inside while law enforcement officers search for the potential gunman.

No reports of shots fired have been received by law enforcement. The anonymous tip was received from a pay phone either on or near campus, according to Fox News reports. University officials noted that Thanksgiving break has already begun for Yale students, so fewer employees and coeds are on the campus than normal today. The New Haven campus is home to approximately 11,250 students and is located about 80 miles northeast of New York City. Yale’s Old Campus area is located on the northwest section of the green and is home to Connecticut Hall. According to the Yale Daily News, freshman dorms are also situated in the Old Campus area where possible gunman was supposedly located.

The Yale gunman report sent out on the emergency alert system reads:

New Haven Police have received an anonymous call from a phone booth in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue (between Howard Avenue and Hallock Street) reporting a person on the Yale Campus with a gun. There have been NO confirmations or sightings of this person. Yale and New Haven Police are in the area. If you have information, please call 911 immediately. The Yale Police Department advises those on campus to remain in their current location until there is additional information.Confirmed report of person with a gun on/near Old Campus. SHELTER IN PLACE. This is NOT a test.
