Dan Greaney, The Simpsons writer who once predicted Donald Trump‘s presidency in a 2000 episode, has announced his bid for the 2028 White House run.

Greaney, who calls himself “the prophet,” announced his 2028 presidential bid on Tuesday, May 26, via an Instagram video. He appeared in a wizard costume, wearing a gray robe and sporting a gray beard.

In the video, Greaney blasted both Republican and Democratic politicians. He also criticized Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and the billionaires.

“Trump, Vance, the billionaires, careerists, and cowards in both parties have turned their backs on the United States,” Greaney said. “It’s money, power, and security for them, but not for you.”

Greaney, 61, joked that he wished he could help improve the country, but said he was “not a lawyer.” He then added, “I’m just a self-proclaimed prophet who went to law school, graduated, and passed the bar… Wait, I am a lawyer!”

Greaney then shed his wizard costume, revealing a clean-shaven look and a suit underneath. “Scr*w it, I can be a politician. I’m running for president. My platform: America for all. Let’s do this,” Greaney said.

The Emmy-winning writer appears to be running as an independent on a “progressive Republican” platform. According to his campaign website, Greaney’s platform has two major categories: “Restoring Democracy” and “Rebuilding America.”

On his campaign website, Greaney outlined his plan to restore democracy. It includes increasing the number of Supreme Court justices from nine to 13, reinforcing the rule of law, and limiting the role of money in politics. The writer’s agenda for rebuilding America also includes universal healthcare, affordable housing, and a Green New Deal initiative.

Greaney is most popular for the The Simpsons episode titled “Bart to the Future” (Season 11, Episode 17), which aired on March 19, 2000. In the episode, Lisa Simpson is shown becoming the new President and inheriting a budget crisis from the former fictional ‘President Trump.’

Trump did run a short presidential campaign in 2000 as a candidate from the Reform Party. However, he ended his campaign on February 14 that year, just a month before the episode was aired.

The episode, which aired 16 years before Trump first assumed office as president in 2017, went viral after his election win, and Greaney gained the reputation of being a “pop-culture prophet.”

In June 2025, Greaney channeled his “prophet” persona and boldly claimed that Trump would be removed from office before the year-end.

“The end is near for the Trump presidency,” Greaney said at the time. “His fall will be unambiguous and universally acknowledged. He will be removed from office,” he said, adding that while it is “risky” to mention a particular date, he could foresee it happening by the end of 2025.

While his prediction did not come true, Greaney has now announced his own presidential bid, making him one of the earliest candidates to declare their 2028 White House run.
