In what might possibly be the most validating moment in the history of geek TV shows astrophysicist Stephen Hawking has agreed to appear on an upcoming episode of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.
Hawking appeared on the set of the uber-popular sitcom on Friday where he filmed a scene alongside Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons (Dr. Sheldon Cooper), a socially deluded theoretical physicist.
According to TV Guide the shows producers have been trying to get Stephen Hawking on the show for the last several years with no success.
Each attempt by producers to get Hawking on the show were shot down not because he didn’t want to appear on the show but rather because of the scientists health problems brought on by his Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS).
As expected Stephen Hawking is playing himself in the cameo.
The Hawking episode airs one week after another huge “geek star” is involved with the show. Star Trek ‘s Leonard Nimoy will lend his voice to a March 29 episode in which he speaks to Sheldon in a dream sequence.
