Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s summer wedding is probably the biggest event in the music and sports industry this year. The two started dating sometime during the summer of 2023, and three years later, they will take the next big step in their relationship.

The couple, who are understood to get married on July 3, 2026, in New York, have been keeping the details of their wedding strictly confidential. There’s a “no phones” policy, along with a watermarked invitation, to prevent leaks.

Despite this, rumors of a potential prenup have come out. According to a recent report by TMZ, the couple would “almost certainly” sign a prenuptial agreement ahead of their rumored summer wedding.

This comes as both of them have substantial wealth and assets to protect, even though Swift is 18 times wealthier than Kelce. Swift’s estimated net worth is around $1.8 billion, while Kelce’s is around $90 million.

Since both stars remain active money makers, legal experts told TMZ that a prenup is a practical way to move forward.

While the possibility of a prenup is not a big surprise, what’s complicated is choosing the state where it would be drafted.

Reportedly, state laws regarding prenups vary significantly across the U.S. The location where a prenup is drafted plays a major role in how it’s enforced, regardless of where the two eventually settle.

TMZ reported that the couple has ties to at least six states, including Rhode Island, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee, and New York. They ruled out California as their sources confirmed the prenup won’t be drafted there.

Swift has a fancy estate in Rhode Island, a luxe pad in New York and deep roots in Tennessee. Meanwhile, Kelce just bought a home in Kansas and plays NFL football in Missouri.

The couple will most likely pick a state that strongly enforces the prenup, protects separate property, and gives the court less leeway to change the agreement’s terms or invalidate it. They would also look to protect business and IP appreciation, along with short-term spousal support in case of divorce.

This essentially rules out New York as judges there are known to scrutinize prenups and sometimes even invalidate them.

Rhode Island is the best overall fit, followed by Kansas, Tennessee and Missouri.

As Swift and Kelce figure out the location of their prenup, netizens have been wondering what the details of their prenup would include. A post on the Reddit’s r/legaladviceofftopic subreddit asked, “What would the prenup between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift look like?” and Redditors had all sorts of answers.

Some believed it won’t be that complicated, as one user wrote:

“Probably not that complicated, actually. There is a point where things start to get easier. In this case, there would likely just be total separation of assets. Where rich people’s prenups get complications is when there is an imbalance and the start, or if someone gets really rich during the marriage. Or if there are children involved. But the Taylor-Travis situation is likely pretty simple.”

Another added:

“I think the asset part can be easy, but it’s still going to look like a NYC phone book. There will probably be things like protecting image and branding, most likely some sort of NDA, something about kids, and who knows what else gets thrown into it.”

A third chimed:

“There is definitely an imbalance between the two. He makes great money… But not like her! And he’s a football player. His career has a pretty early expiration date, even if he plays to the older end of normal. Taylor’s career is limitless.”
