A police bodycam video posted by Police Release on YouTube captures the heartbreaking story of a woman who claims she caught her partner cheating while they were on vacation together. The incident occurred on July 5, 2026, after police responded to a call from a neighbor about a disturbance at a residence, reporting a man and a woman screaming inside.
When police arrived, a female officer was greeted at the door by a woman who identified herself as Amy. Soon after, a young woman named Kayla, 29, came out of the house and approached the officer.
Amy told the officer that Kayla was her son’s girlfriend and the two had gotten into an ugly disagreement that “escalated.” The police officer then spoke to Kayla and found out that she had caught her boyfriend cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend.
“I woke up this morning. We’re here out of town…his ex-girlfriend sent me a screenshot. I mean, this is all irrelevant. This is all irrelevant. He’s cheating on me with his ex-girlfriend,” she told the officer.
Kayla, a resident of Lakeland, Florida, said she had been in a romantic relationship with her boyfriend, identified as Lucas, for nine months. According to the bodycam footage, the couple was visiting the man’s mother when Kayla received a screenshot from his former girlfriend, Elizabeth, who is also the mother of one of his children. The argument turned violent after Kayla said she wanted to go home without him.
Kayla said, “I go to leave. I’m quietly getting my things together because we’re supposed to leave today anyway. I get all my stuff in the car. And he’s not letting me leave. And I was like, ‘I’m not taking you home. You’re cheating on me with your ex-girlfriend.”
“He just won’t let me leave. He won’t let me leave. He is rough, he is jolting, and he is throwing me around. He won’t let me leave,” she said. “He kicked me in my diaphragm. He kicked me right here in my chest. I was on the ground and he like kicked me… And for a second, I literally could not breathe. I literally couldn’t breathe.”
After calming down, Kayla explained what led up to the confrontation with Lucas. She revealed she received a screenshot of a message he apparently sent to his ex, saying, “‘I know I need to move on, too, but there’s definitely times when I miss having a family and stuff.’ And then she had sent him these lingerie photos.”
Kayla says once she confronted Lucas and tried to leave, he became violent. However, his mother reportedly sided with her and urged him to let her go.
“I was like, ‘You need to find your own way home.’ And he’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ And I was like, ‘You’re cheating on me.’ And he’s like, ‘No, I’m not.’ And I was, and I was like, ‘Check your phone.’ And I sent him a screenshot. And he’s like, ‘You know she is manipulating you.’ And I got in my car, and he wouldn’t let me leave.”
After Kayla got into her car, she alleged that Lucas grabbed her and dragged her outside.
“(Lucas’s mother) is like, ‘I don’t want to have to call the cops. Don’t make me have to call the cops. Just let her leave.’ I don’t know if she was the one who called or if it was a neighbour who called. But I know that she wanted to call the cops. And I was like, I was telling her, ‘Call the cops. Call the cops. Let Why not? Why feel like I’m being held hostage at this point? Let me leave. I don’t have to. I’m telling you I don’t want to be here. You need to let me leave.’ And he’s not wanting to let me leave.”
Despite Kayla’s best efforts, pleading that she needed to get home to care for her pet cat, she was arrested along with her boyfriend.
“In the state of Florida, the state decides and makes a determination when someone does or does not need to go to jail. You both have injuries consistent with your claim, okay? Therefore, we can’t prove who is the primary aggressor and who is not. So, because of that, you will both be placed under arrest,” an officer explained.
According to the video’s description, both individuals were charged with battery, and their court cases remain pending.
Viewers reacted with sympathy toward Kayla and were frustrated with the outcome, saying she didn’t deserve to go to prison.
“I genuinely feel sorry for Kayla. I hope she leaves him, stays away from him, and finds happiness,” wrote one viewer. Another added, “Abused and traumatized and arrested. Horrible police work.”
A third viewer said, “Why wasn’t he charged with unlawful imprisonment, too? I hope the charges against her were dropped! Defensive wounds shouldn’t count!”
A fourth one said, “I feel for her. Being young and hurt like that sucks. I’ve been the bad guy in that as well as the victim. Don’t ever cheat, guys, just break up first.”
