Trigger Warning: This article discusses domestic violence that some readers may find upsetting. Reader discretion is advised.
Rayshaun McGrew, a Florida police officer, found himself on the wrong side of the law after an altercation with his four-month-pregnant wife. Dayton Beach officers would come to the house shortly after the domestic dispute had reached its highest point, questioning not just McGrew’s wife, but also his children and his mother-in-law.
The accusations against McGrew were for assault, where, during an argument, he had shoved his wife to the floor, and also supposedly held her by the neck. There were red marks on his wife’s body when law enforcement arrived, on her neck, ankle, and arm.
The Florida couple’s children had witnessed the entire altercation, being present at home at the time. Officers advised her to look at the bigger picture, as she would try to justify the actions of her husband. They explained that she needs to think about the child who had witnessed a violent encounter between their parents, and about the child that she had on the way.
However, this was in stark contrast with McGrew’s own statements, which claimed that there had been no physical contact between him and his wife at all. However, he did admit to closing the door on her. McGrew also had parts of the confrontation filmed on his iPad, which was on his person when it occurred.
McGrew said, “I’m like, You said you wanted to go so you can, you know what I’m saying? Do what you got to do and get your alone time. So, just go ahead and leave. Now she’s screaming, going off, and all this. I swear I’m like I’m not going to argue with her. I’m like, ‘Bro, what are you doing, bro?'”
The confrontations between the couple had been a recurring thing for the past few years, and there seemed to be much animosity between the two. What investigators found concerning was that it seemed that some parts of the confrontation were intentionally left out.
Further, McGrew also claimed to have his friends on FaceTime, which gave them a further fragmented look at what had transpired. He said, “Like I said, I didn’t touch her at all. I know y’all are doing y’all investigation. But I didn’t come out that room. I was on FaceTime the entire the whole entire time.”
He was then placed under arrest so that an investigation into the matter could commence. There was no room for any sort of informal understanding.
Bodycam footage from the responding Florida officers was stitched together and uploaded to the channel Real Crime Stories on YouTube. In the two days since the video has been up, it has managed to rack up a little over a thousand views.
The incident in question occurred way back in 2023. Following the incident, the department in which McGrew was released a statement, saying, “In accordance with department policy, Officer McGrew has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the Criminal and Internal Investigation. The Daytona Beach Police Department is committed to a thorough and impartial investigation into this matter.”
