A 58-year-old Mount Vernon man killed his niece in NYC’s Bronx on July 13, 2026. Identified as Michael Foster, he shot his 39-year-old niece, identified as Julia Anderson, multiple times near her vehicle at Murdock and Nereid avenues.

She was leaving her workplace at that time when her uncle approached her as she reached her Jeep and opened fire. Police revealed Foster shot her through the passenger window. She drove a distinctive black Jeep with pink trim, which could be easily spotted even from a distance.

A witness called 911 after spotting her lying on the ground outside her car. Paramedics rushed her to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment, but doctors were unable to save her. Several reports suggest the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over an inherited home, while police have not officially confirmed the motive. According to authorities, Foster and Anderson used to live in the same house in Mount Vernon.

NYPD officers arrested Foster on Wednesday. They also searched the Mount Vernon home and were seen leaving with evidence in brown paper bags.

Photos from Foster’s arrest quickly took over the internet as the police officers escorted him by the arm. He wore bright yellow shorts, a black sweatshirt, socks, and sandals, andkept his head down throughout.

He was charged with ten counts of criminal possession of a weapon, along with murder and manslaughter. Needless to say, the property dispute over the inherited home is the least of his legal problems now. He could spend the majority of his remaining life in prison considering the charges against him.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s mother, Beverly Patterson, is grieving the loss of her daughter. She told reporters that her daughter worked as an aide to adults with developmental disabilities. She was set to turn 40 next month.

She said, “She was very good; she kind of looks similar to me, although she’s tall, like 6 feet, I think. I don’t know, she went to work, and that was it; I never heard anything from her again.”

Patterson said her daughter typically left work around noon and returned by midnight. The shooting occurred just before midnight, around the time she would have been heading home.

She added, “She was my birthday present when she was born,” noting the two shared the same birth month.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the police have released limited information about the case.
