Playing Skyrim with Kinect looks surprisingly good [Video]

To be perfectly honest, I don’t particularly care for the Kinect right now, nor have I ever. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned (Or stubborn. Or lazy.) but I’m of the opinion that games should be played with a controller . I don’t want to be the controller, Microsoft!

Still, I can’t say that I haven’t been thoroughly impressed what the hacking community has been able to do with the device, and I can admittedly see the promise in the Kinect, though I think it Microsoft released it far too early as, in its current state, it’s frankly far to limited than it ought to be. Hopefully the Kinect 2 , whenever that’s due out, will address most of its issues.

Take, for example, this video of Skyrim being played with the Kinect. The user is able to issue voice commands to access his inventory, cast spells using his voice – which basically allows you to live out your dream of shouting “Fus Ro Dah!!” and having it actually do something – and so on.

It actually looks like it works pretty well, but due to the limitations of the Kinect it stops short of being just about the best thing ever. The Kinect sometimes won’t be able to hear voice commands, there’s a noticeably significant input delay, and so on. Sure, some of these things could possibly be addressed provided the developer tinkers around with it some more, but it just reminds me of how disappointing the Kinect really is, and how good it could be.

To see what I’m talking about for yourself, check out Skyrim being played with the Kinect in the video below, and then let us know what you think of the Kinect (and the video).
