Pia Toscano didn’t come close to taking the title on American Idol – she didn’t even crack the top 8 despite having a huge fan base – but apparently the 22-year-old singer didn’t need it.
After weeks of speculation, Interscope Records officially announced it has inked a record deal with Toscano, who also will be releasing her debut single, This Time , on July 12th.
“I am thrilled to be joining the Interscope and 19 Recordings family…This is a dream come true,” Toscano said in a statement earlier today.
For those of you that are unable to wait a full week to hear the new sound, Pia will also be performing it during her slot on the American Idols Live tour , which is scheduled to begin today in Salt Lake City, Utah.
As for her debut album, which is due out later this year, Toscano told People Magazine :
“It’s definitely going to be big ballads, but there’s also going to be those fun up-tempo songs, those dancing songs.” She continued, “I feel like on the show people really only saw me in one way and I want to show the world that I can do other things.”
Though the album is not yet complete, producer Rodney Jerkins, who has recorded three songs with Pia, said fans can expect big things.
