Attending yet another presidential campaign fundraiser, Barack Obama may or may not have gone off the teleprompter when he got booed even by his most devoted political supporters in Boston last night for joking about the Kevin Youkilis BoSox-to-ChiSox trade. Apparently baseball transcends politics even in a deep blue state.

It’s rare for a politician to be booed at his own fundraiser, but President Obama managed to briefly earn the ire of attendees of an event at Boston’s Symphony Hall Monday night when he needled the crowd about the trade of former Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
“I’m just saying, he’s going to have to change the color of his socks,” the president said laughing.
Youkilis leaving (or being run out of) town is a sore subject for Red Sox fans and probably will be for some time to come. The beloved Red Sox infielder, who played both third and first, was traded on Sunday to the Chicago White Sox for infielder Brent Lillibridge and pitcher Zach Stewart.
If Youkilis can stay away from injuries, he will be a huge addition to the ChiSox everyday lineup. According to GM Kenny Williams,”[Youkilis] wants to come in and he wants to prove some people wrong.”

Incidentally, when he’s not “fighting for the middle class,” Obama has attended more fundraisers with millionaire celebrities and played more rounds of golf than any president in history.
