The internet compared the Memorial Day messages made by Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama, with various users picking a clear winner. Trump commemorated Memorial Day by placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia.
The president was joined by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance. Together, they honored the fallen soldiers at the burial site. While speaking at the event, Trump addressed the 13 soldiers who lost their lives in the Iran War. He had previously been criticized for appearing to downplay those deaths earlier this month.

The president also appeared to fall asleep during the event. This was the second time Trump has fallen asleep at a formal event this month. However, that wasn’t the only problematic thing that critics observed, as Trump later made a post on Truth Social, using Memorial Day to take a jab at Democrats.
“Happy Memorial Day to all, including the Dumocrats, who disrespect our Military and all of the tremendous success that it has had over the last year,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. “God Bless those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. I love you all!”
The post was criticized by various users on the internet due to its controversial nature. It was also compared to Obama’s post, which was deliberately non-political in nature, and focused on the importance of the day.

“On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love,” the former president wrote on X. “It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.
“Far cry from the bloated convicted felon and child ra–st sitting in the White House,” one user wrote in the comments. “Obama honored the fallen like a president. Trump turned his post into another cheap attack ad against Americans who don’t worship him. The whiny piece of s–t can’t even respect the dead without dragging his rotten little ego into it.”
That said, various users also used the moment to criticize Barack Obama, who has had his own fair share of controversies.
“You’re so mentally warped that you think you’re still president,” a user wrote, criticizing the image posted by Obama. “The fact that you posted a pic of yourself is evidence of your narcissism.” A third user wrote: “Barack Obama carried the presidency with dignity, empathy, and actual respect for the troops instead of treating patriotism like a merchandising opportunity. I miss having a president who understood service means sacrifice, not self-promotion.”
