President Donald Trump found himself at the center of another controversy during a recent campaign event in Rockland County, New York, after a heckler tried to interrupt his speech.

According to a YouTube video posted by The NY Post, the incident took place on May 22, 2026, while Trump was speaking to supporters at a rally backing Republican Rep. Mike Lawler. Lawler is up for reelection in November’s midterm elections.

The footage shows Trump pausing mid-speech after someone in the crowd shouted something at him. His security quickly escorted the person out.

As Trump saw the heckler being taken out of the rally, he said:

“Go home to mom. Take him home to mommy! He’s going to be in trouble.”

However, he added:

“Don’t hurt him! Don’t hurt him! I do that for legal reasons…Now I can say ‘I’m innocent.'”

Trump continued to joke about the person and suggested that he might be doing all of this to make his mother proud of him. He said:

“You know what he doesn’t say is his mom’s watching on television right now and she’s loving it.”

Before Trump could realize, security took the heckler out of the area. A stunned Trump then went on to discourage similar interruptions at his events, calling them “dangerous.”

“I tell people, please don’t do it. It’s dangerous. To do it in this crowd is not a good thing. You don’t want to do it in Trump crowds.”

He also talked about how such instances used to happen a lot after he first became president, but over time they have stopped because people understood that “it’s just not a good thing to do.” He added:

“It’s not good. It’s sort of dangerous. And of course, I like things that aren’t dangerous. I don’t like to see people get whacked. I don’t like it.”

The video quickly went viral online with people divided over Trump’s comment and the interruption attempt.

After the brief interruption, Trump went back to telling a story related to transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. According to The Mirror, Melania Trump advised not to tell the story as it is “so damn unprofessional.”

This appearance was a part of Trump’s effort to campaign alongside Lawler. Lawler has been one of Trump’s strongest allies among Republicans in politically divided districts.

While Trump campaigns alongside Lawler, his own polling numbers have seen a decline in the past few weeks. A new American Research Group poll found only 31 percent of voters approved of Trump. Meanwhile, Fox News polling showed that his rating has dropped by 10 points since the start of his second term.
