The unsolved homicide mystery of Trish Haynes continues to raise questions even after eight years of finding her remains in a washing machine at the bottom of a New Hampshire pond. Eight years after she died in 2018, Haynes’ family is still searching for answers after her death was classified as a homicide. Haynes, who was 25 at the time of her death, had only recently moved in with two of her friends when the incident happened.
According to the Mirror, shortly after moving to Grafton, New Hampshire, with friends, her family grew concerned when she abruptly stopped communicating with her relatives. This included her grandmother, with whom she was exceptionally close and with whom she shared a strong bond.

The sudden shift shook the relatives, as she used to speak to her grandmother, Sandi, and her great-aunt, Val, daily. Her cousin, Carey-Ann Wilson, said:
“She was extremely close with her grandmother, Sandi, and with Trish’s great aunt, Val. They spoke with her almost daily. So when the calls became infrequent, short, and guarded, it immediately felt out of character.”
In the first few days after moving in, Haynes used to communicate with her relatives on her own, but weeks later, communication became limited and came only through her friends. She eventually told her grandmother that her phone was “broken” and so she had to use her friend’s phone to communicate.
After issuing an ultimatum on July 5, the family filed a missing persons report with the Grafton Police Department, the very next day.

As soon as the police started their investigation, an anonymous tip directed them to Grant’s Pond. After searching the pond, investigators found a washer and dryer full of Haynes’ remains submerged beneath the water.
While authorities ruled the case a homicide in 2018, it wasn’t until July 2019 that the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office publicly identified Haynes and confirmed she had been the victim of a killing.
The disturbing circumstances left both investigators and Haynes’ family devastated. Wilson said:
“I was living in Arizona when I learned of Trish’s death. I was stunned, deeply saddened. I couldn’t understand why anyone would hurt her, kill her — especially in the manner in which they did.
To this day, I just don’t get it. The words, still eight years later, are hard to find.”
Despite years of investigation and multiple requests for information, no arrests have been made for the Trish Haynes case, and the investigation remains “ongoing.”
Haynes’ family members have not given up hope and continue to receive tips. They are now raising funds for a reward to encourage more information that could help secure a conviction. Wilson shared:
“Meanwhile, our family has spent years carrying grief, unanswered questions, and the feeling that Trish’s story still hasn’t concluded. At the same time, we refuse to let her be forgotten. That’s why we continue speaking publicly, working with advocacy groups, and trying to bring renewed attention to the case.”
