Milwaukee's High-Speed Police Chase Ends With Car Launching Into the Air—Felon Had Folding Gun and Drugs Inside

A Milwaukee police chase turned cinematic when a felon's car launched into the air at 110mph. Here's what cops discovered inside the wreck.

A Milwaukee man led the police on a high-speed chase before his car flew into the air, and the cops apprehended him. The incident began when a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper stopped a speeding white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu on Interstate 41. The incident occurred on May 9 before 9 a.m.. The state patrol trooper called in for assistance with the traffic stop. However, as a deputy and another trooper arrived at the stop, the man fled.

According to Fox 6, another deputy from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle exiting I-41 at a high speed. The deputy chased the vehicle through a parking lot and onto Pioneer Road. It has been revealed that the suspect was driving at 110 mph in a 35 mph zone. The wild goose chase ended when the driver reached the Winnebago Street exit, where he lost control, sending his car into the air. The car went into a ditch, leading it to “vault” over four lanes of Winnebago Street. The man attempted to flee the scene on foot, but authorities used a taser on him and apprehended him. The man was identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Clifton Stokes from Milwaukee. The authorities then conducted a search of the car, which led to them finding “several packages of green leafy substance and a black rectangular object. The court filing revealed that the rectangular object was a “concealable firearm that folded in and had two rounds of live ammunition inside of it.” Stokes was out on a $5,000 bond through Kenosha County for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Following the arrest, he was charged with “first-degree recklessly endangering safety, being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, felony bail jumping, resisting an officer, and misdemeanor THC possession.” Stokes was presented to the Fond du Lac County court on May 15, where prosecutors alleged that he is a repeat offender. The court has set his bail at $25,000, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 24, 2026. The video of the man’s car launching into the air went viral, with various users sharing their views or creating memes about it. One user described the visual of Stokes’ car flying into the air as cinematic, saying, “I thought that only happened in movies.” Another added, “Bro think he was Van Diesel,” referencing the Fast and Furious franchise. "Literally…. What is happening to the world right now?" a third user wrote. Various other users also replied with GIFs from Pixar's Cars movie to discuss the matter in a more light-hearted tone.
