Meryl Streep was in London this week to promote her new Margaret Thatcher biopic “Iron Lady.
The press conference was held just outside of the Houses of Parliament and Streep was joined by the films director Phyllida Lloyd who also directed the actress in Mama Mia!.
When the screenplay was first revealed in 2010 it had it’s fair share of criticism from Thatcher’s children who called it “appalling.”
The movie examines the highs and lows of Thatcher’s political career and speaking about playing the famed British politician Streep told the Daily Mail that it was the biggest role of her career while adding:
“It took a lot out of me, but it was a privilege to play her, it really was.”
“It was one of those rare, rare films where I was grateful to be an actor and grateful for the privilege of being able to look at a life deeply with empathy.”
Speaking of Streep’s performance correspondent Baz Bamigboye has called her portrayal “magnificent.”
“It’s a performance of towering proportions that sets a new benchmark for acting, a searing interpretation that looks at the big forces that shaped Mrs T’s life.”
