Back in April, BioWare announced that in response to backlash over Mass Effect 3 ‘s ending, the developer would release a free “extended cut” update for the game for added “clarity” and “closure.” And now we know when that update is coming out.
BioWare today announced that the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC will be released on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on June 26 in North America. The update will arrive in Europe on the same day on PC and Xbox 360, but PlayStation 3 gamers across the pond will have to wait until July 4 to get the update.
In a post on the game’s website, the developers said that Mass Effect 3 ‘s Extended Cut DLC will “expand upon the events at the end of Mass Effect 3” through “additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes”, and will also “include deeper insight to Commander Shepard’s journey based on player choices during the war against the Reapers.”
The backlash over Mass Effect 3 ‘s ending has since died down, but I have to wonder if the Extended Cut is too little, too late. I’ll be checking the update out once it’s released, but I don’t see it undoing any of the damage done to fans who have already played through it.
