It looks like politics is wreaking havoc on VP JD Vance’s wardrobe.

The Ohio senator-turned-vice president may have penned “Hillbilly Elegy,” but lately his style reads more like “Fashion Tragedy.” Away from Washington, Vance keeps it relaxed, blending into the Midwestern dad archetype with T-shirts and jeans. But when duty calls, and cameras flash, his fashion sense seems to vanish into a void, replaced by some of the most unfortunate suit choices Capitol Hill has seen.

Case in point? His recent appearance at the American Compass Fifth Anniversary Gala. Vance rolled up looking like he’d borrowed a penguin suit from a high school theater department and tumble-dried it on high. The ill-fitting tuxedo hugged his frame in all the wrong ways, with a bowtie that looked like it was gasping for air.

Do ALL of his clothes have to be too small?

 Internet noticed immediately.

On X (formerly Twitter), users zeroed in on the same glaring issue: the sizing. “Do ALL of his clothes have to be too small?” one user asked, speaking for just about everyone watching. The roast kept sizzling. Another replied, “Yes. Because he still shops for clothes in the Boys Husky section of Sears.”

And just when you think the fashion critique couldn’t get shadier, someone threw in a not-so-subtle jab at his intellect, “Yes, tailored to match his brain.”

Even if the fit had been on point, the aesthetic might not have survived the public’s wrath. That classic, outdated black-and-white combo prompted one viewer to quip, “Vance seems like a 19th century politician. He needs a cigar to finish the look.”

Unfortunately for Vance, this isn’t his first rodeo with rogue tailoring. Who could forget the CPAC pants disaster that drew more eyes to his inseam than his speech? Or the navy blue suit from Trump’s January 20, 2025, inauguration, a look so tight, it practically begged for mercy? His baby-sized pants at Trump’s Congress speech sparked an internet meltdown too!

Posting that particular photo on Facebook may have been his boldest (read: worst) fashion choice yet. His blazer looked like it was holding on for dear life. “Could have at least worn a suit that fit for such an occasion,” a user commented. And one eagle-eyed critic had a hero of the night: “That one button deserves a raise.”

The viral clip also captures how Vance struggled to get off stage. And of course netizens didn’t step back to comment on it either. One user wrote, “I didn’t realize dementia was contagious.”

And you wonder why no one takes you seriously…

Vance appeared to get the memo mid-event, unbuttoning the blazer to give it, and maybe his organs, some breathing room. But if you thought that was a wake-up call, think again.

Because judging by the repeated fashion crimes since, Vance still hasn’t figured out that tailoring exists. And at this point, we’re genuinely concerned that he never will.
