Springfield, Illinois, police officer Taylor Staff’s history of misconduct came to light after multiple victims came forward with similar stories. Reports say Staff had been careful not to let his bodycam record any of this, but the internal reports made his behavior difficult to ignore.
Multiple female victims, whose calls Staff had either responded to or aided with arrests, reportedly noted his “creepy” demeanor. Three victims came forward accusing him of misconduct, prompting the Illinois State Police to open a formal investigation into Staff.
The allegations leveled against Staff included him soliciting photos from victims while also engaging in other s*xual misconduct.

Staff pleaded guilty to five of the charges that were brought against him, including but not limited to aggravated criminal s*xual abuse and official misconduct. He was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison and has been mandated by the court to register as a lifelong s– offender. He no longer works in law enforcement.
Bodycam footage retrieved from Staff’s own device and that of his partners and assisting officers has been compiled and uploaded to YouTube under the channel EWU Bodycam. In the eight months since the video went up, it has amassed over 9.3 million views and racked up well over 11,000 comments.
Comments under the video have been very critical of the justice system when it comes to police officers and have also targeted the possible compatriots of Staff who may have covered for him in the case.
One user under the video said, “I bet you the only reason he takes domestic calls is that he thinks the victims are vulnerable women, thinking they are too weak to say anything. He is a predator.” Another wrote, “The way he makes sure to place the men under arrest despite the situation just to ensure the women will be alone… actually terrifying.” A third user noted, “”It’s an officer…who would believe my word over someone whose authority?” That right there is the most heartbreaking thing about all of this.” A fourth user, noting the lack of severity to Staff’s sentence, commented, “This cop got a sweetheart deal. Multiple s*xual assaults against women in vulnerable situations. He should be doing decades behind bars.”
